·      Greenland (Kalaait Nunait), which is the largest island in the world, is in North Atlantic (2176000 sq.km). It is a territory of Denmark

·      Archipelago is a group of islands. Indonesia is the largest archipelago in the world

·      Ireland is known as the Emerald Island. Baharain is known as the Pearl Island

·      The second largest island is New Guinea

·      Malagasy (Madagascar) is the largest island in the Indian Ocean (588000 sq.km)

·      Andaman and Nicobar Islands is the biggest union territory in India. It lies in the Bay of Bengal. Its capital is at Port Blair. There are 223 islands in the group

·      Lakshadweep is in the Arabian Sea. There are 27 coral islands in the group

·      Japanese archipelago of over 4000 islands

·      Japan comprises 4 islands – Honshu, Hokkaido, Kyshu, Shikoko. Among this Honshu is the biggest island.
