Trivandrum Observatory was established by Maharaja Swathi Tirunal in 1837. It is one of the oldest observatory in India. In 1927, the work of the observatory was divided into two sections Astronomical and Meterological. In 1951 the meterology section of the observatory was taken over by government of India and Astronomical section by the State Government. In 1973 it was raised to the meterological centre and climatic predictions are made from here.
