PRELIMINARY
Atom comprises a nucleus containing protons and
neutrons and electrons which revolve around it. The protons are positively charged;
electrons are negatively charged. The neutrons have no charge. Atomic Number
is the number of protons (positively charged mass units) in the nucleus of
an atom.
Atomic Number = Number of protons or Number of electrons (for a
neutral atom)
Atomic Mass or mass number
Mass Number = Number of protons + number of Neutrons
