Endosulphan
is a dangerous pesticide used all over the world in the control of bugs and
pests of various crops, the other names are benzopein Endocel, Theodan.

Its
chemical formula is C₉H₆CI₆O₂S (Organo Chlorin family)
·
On
aerial spraying of Endosulphan in Cashew plantations of Kasargod District is
seen as the cause for rise in mental retardation, birth defects, infertility
and growth abnormalities in region.
·
In
the sametime harmful effect of endosulphan have been reported sporadically from
different parts of the world.
·
On
considering this problem seriously in this conference parties of Stockholm
Convention consisting of 127 nations held at Geneva on 29th April
2011 approved the recommendations for elimination of production and use of
endosulphan worldwide.
·
Later
Supreme Court of India banned the manufacture, sale, use and export of
Endosulphan on hearing the public interest litigation filled by DYFI (Kerala
Wing)
