PRELIMINARY
Rev. Gregor Mendel was the Augustinian priest and
scientist. The theories of heredity attributed to Gregor Mendel, based on his
work with pea plants. Experiments with Plant Hybrids, in which Mendel described
how traits were inherited, has become one of the most enduring and influential
publications in the history of science.
Mendel’s study showed that one in four pea plants had
purebed recessive alleles, two out of four were hybrid and one out of four were
purebed dominant. His experiments brought forth two generalizations, the Law of
Segregation and the Law of Independent Assortment, which later became known as
Mendel’s Laws of Inheritance.
