PRELIMINARY
The hooded pitohui from Papua New Guinea is the only
known poisonous bird in the world. Discovered in 1990, scientists have not yet
found reason why its feathers and skin contain the poison. Homobatrachotoxin
like many other poisonous animals the bird emits a foul smell and is brightly
coloured.
