·       Comet is small solar system body that moves usually in a very elongated orbit around the Sun. When comets come close to Sun, they display a visible coma (a thin temporary atmosphere) and sometimes a tail.

·       The biggest comet is Centauri 2060 Chiron. It was discovered in 1977. Its diameter is 113 miles.

·       There are nearly 10000 comets in our solar system

·       Shoemaker Levy -9 is the name given to the comet which collided with Jupiter in 1996

·       Halley’s comet is seen every 76 years. It will reappear in AD 2062. It was discovered by Edmond Halley in 1705
