·       Eventhough Telescope was invented by Hans Lippershey (1608, Netherlands), telescope was first used by Galileo (1609)

·       First reflecting telescope was designated by Issac Newton in 1668

·       The first large X-ray telescope was ‘Einstein observatory’ launched in 1978 (USA)

·       Hubble telescope, launched in 1990 by NASA, is the first space telescope

·       Chandra X-ray observatory was launched by NASA in 1991. The observatory was named after S.Chandrasekhar, the Indian Physicist, who won the Nobel Prize in 1983

·       Chandrasekhar Limit: A limiting mass, below which a star can become a white dwarf

·       The world’s largest low frequency Giant Meterwave Radio Telescope (GMRT) has been set up at Narayananagao, near Pune

·       Karl Jansky discovered Radio Telescope
